The Longest Shortest Time

Fractured

cast-toes-sock-square

As I have learned in doing this project, there are all sorts of longest shortest times. And it seems I am at the start of another one of my own. A couple days ago I was going down a slide with Sasha. A slide with a sharp turn. Her foot got caught on the curve but my body kept going. She was screaming . . . and did I hear a snap? I think I heard a snap. Her leg shook when I tried to stand her up. Long story short, I took her to the ER and found out she’d fractured her leg. It was so hard to see the line running through her tibia on the x-ray. She will be in a full leg cast for 4-5 weeks and won’t be able to walk during that time. So far she’s found that super frustrating, though she’s starting to master the leg-drag crawl. It feels a little bit like having a baby again, except that the baby REALLY, REALLY wants to walk. On the other hand, we are discovering that dancing can be done in a seated position.

We *just* recovered from a double ear infection, which resulted in a full-body rash from the antibiotics. And before that, a bad reaction to a flu shot. We need to focus all of our energy on feeling healthy around here.

This is all to say, you probably won’t be seeing or hearing much from me over the next month. But I’d love any suggestions for activities that can be done with a toddler while sitting. Or stories of your own children’s injuries. Leave ’em in the comments.

Apologies to anyone I’ve interviewed or promised to interview. We’re going to have to put that on hold for now. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
