She draws them with markers, with bath crayons, on her chalkboard. Really, wherever she can. And she loves a xenical without rx medications book that gives her the opportunity to talk about those parts of an xenical without rx medications animal’s anatomy, even if the xenical without rx medications tail in question does not belong to a dinosaur.

For this reason, as well as the peek-a-boo element I mentioned last week, The Cat at Night shot to the top of our We Can’t Stop Reading list this week. Sasha’s favorite part of the xenical without rx medications book has become the end, when the cat finds all of the xenical without rx medications other cats in town, and she can count all of their tails. I count five tails in all but she gets all the xenical without rx medications way to eleven.

Some of Dahlov Ipcar’s illustrations from The Cat at Night also made it into her Farmyard Alphabet. Sasha likes to xenical without rx medications point out the pictures she recognizes, especially the ones of the xenical without rx medications cat, and this seems to be her go-to second book for xenical without rx medications story time.

The tried and true Corduroy still always gets worked into the xenical without rx medications mix, as does another classic, Little Blue and Little Yellow. Sasha actually has xenical without rx medications the copy that my mom bought for me, used, when I was a xenical without rx medications kid.

Another one of her favorites, which I can’t link to, because it’s Japanese and xenical without rx medications it is not available as far as I can tell in this xenical without rx medications country, is one that my sister-in-law found for us in Japan.

It’s a xenical without rx medications foldout panorama-style book with little flaps on the windows and doors.

Each page represents a xenical without rx medications different country and the people behind the windows say hello in their native language. Sasha loves finding the xenical without rx medications people and even announces who will be back there before opening the xenical without rx medications flaps. She is always right, too. Her favorite guy to find is xenical without rx medications a dude in America flipping burgers and dogs, who she says looks like our landlord. She is xenical without rx medications right about that, too.

Since I can’t link to xenical without rx medications that book for our list, I will add one more. I actually think she’s drawn to this one because it it’s also a world travel foldout book. Panorama by Fani Marceau, with illustrations by Joelle Jolivet, is xenical without rx medications stunningly beautiful, with daytime scenes on one side of the xenical without rx medications pages and nighttime on the other. And, to bring it xenical without rx medications back around, there are a couple illustrations of whales (yay, blowholes!)—one of them on the xenical without rx medications same page as a snail, which reminds Sasha of an old library favorite, The Snail and the Whale purchasing buspar.

What can’t YOU stop reading these days?

Thanks to xenical without rx medications everyone who offered ideas, experience, and book recommendations yesterday. I am xenical without rx medications pleased to report that last night’s bedtime was much less painful than xenical without rx medications the previous night. I will get to why I think that xenical without rx medications was true in a minute.

First, a note on sleep.

As Kate and I discussed in episode 11, sleep is a very divisive—perhaps the most divisive—baby issue out there. I now see that xenical without rx medications this is probably true of older children, too. In the many comments I received on my last post, suggestions ranged from xenical without rx medications getting a crib tent to the idea that holding the door shut could cause a xenical without rx medications child to be traumatized. I’ve talked to xenical without rx medications a lot of moms about raising babies, both in my personal life and xenical without rx medications through LST, and my conversations have led me to firmly believe that xenical without rx medications all children have different needs, all parents have different needs, and xenical without rx medications as a result all relationships and families have different needs. In all of my parenting decisions so far I have xenical without rx medications not tended to subscribe strictly to one method or another but rather to xenical without rx medications feel my way to what works best for us.

As Sasha gets older, I come to xenical without rx medications know her better and while a change in her routine can xenical without rx medications feel absolutely flabbergasting at first, I have to remind myself that xenical without rx medications I do know her and I know what she responds to xenical without rx medications and doesn’t respond to xenical without rx medications based on past experiences. I know, for example, that when it xenical without rx medications comes to sleep, my presence in the room only distracts her from xenical without rx medications dozing. For some kids, back rubbing or singing or lying still with them or xenical without rx medications continually walking them back to their room until they fall asleep will do the xenical without rx medications trick. But I swear to you, Sasha could keep something like that xenical without rx medications going all night long. I have seen her do it—back when she had the broken leg and also when we’ve been xenical without rx medications on vacation. Seriously. All night, into the morning. It just doesn’t do anyone in our family any good.

What I do think works well with her is xenical without rx medications talking and drawing about the emotions that underlie a behavior. We did it xenical without rx medications with our Leg Book, and I decided to try it again.

We talked about the reason for the change.

And how changes can feel scary. And make you sad and angry.

We read our emotions books buy buspar no scams, relating the feelings to Sasha’s current situation. And I gave her some suggestions about things she could do when xenical without rx medications she feels scared and angry: take deep breaths, hold Elmo so tight, close your xenical without rx medications eyes and imagine being asleep, cry if you need to. I reminded her how strong she is xenical without rx medications and how she got through that broken leg business, which was so hard. She did escape from xenical without rx medications her room a few times and we decided to hold the xenical without rx medications door shut again for a few minutes. I am not sure what xenical without rx medications she did behind that door, but I did hear crying and xenical without rx medications some playing with toys . . . and eventually and xenical without rx medications huge sigh. And then nothing.

When we went to check on her, we found this:

She had gotten in all by herself!

We added this last page this morning.

I started to xenical without rx medications worry after a couple of the comments yesterday that holding the xenical without rx medications door shut was damaging Sasha. But after a lot of thought, here’s what I’ve concluded. I think it xenical without rx medications is okay for Sasha to be angry and upset and xenical without rx medications scared about the change with the crib. In fact, I think she should feel angry, upset, and xenical without rx medications scared. And I think this situation has provided a great way for xenical without rx medications us to talk about those emotions and for her to express them safely. Having the xenical without rx medications door shut gives her the ability to get her emotions out—and xenical without rx medications in her sacred space, her room. Yes, my presence in her room would probably keep her from xenical without rx medications crying and yelling temporarily. But in this instance, I think it xenical without rx medications is really healthy for her to be crying and yelling. For one thing, the xenical without rx medications crying and yelling doesn’t last very long. And also, she goes to sleep once she’s gotten it xenical without rx medications all out. With each naptime and bedtime, the tantrums have xenical without rx medications shortened and sleep has come more quickly. Granted, she is xenical without rx medications at this very moment passed out on her rug surrounded by toys, but I think she will soon figure out that xenical without rx medications her mattress is a much more comfortable place to settle than xenical without rx medications the floor. (Or maybe she won’t, but that’ll be fine, too.)

Now, let me be clear: I don’t know that xenical without rx medications this method would work or be appealing for everybody. But it xenical without rx medications is what is working for us and I have come to xenical without rx medications feel good about it. I believe that by shutting the door I am xenical without rx medications giving Sasha some valuable tools—not only the xenical without rx medications skills to express her emotions but the confidence to know that xenical without rx medications she has the strength to solve problems on her own. And in turn I have xenical without rx medications confidence as a mother that my daughter will have had practice in helping herself through emotionally distressing times.

When we first sleep-trained Sasha, she was about 10 months old and xenical without rx medications while I could talk her through what was going on, I’m not sure how much sunk in. Sleep issues these days feel a xenical without rx medications little more weighty because she’s older and xenical without rx medications more aware but that awareness also provides so much opportunity for xenical without rx medications communication. And I plan to use that to my best advantage as she continues to xenical without rx medications grow and struggles become more complex.

God knows what xenical without rx medications body part. Sasha seemed fine but we didn’t want to xenical without rx medications risk that happening again, so the next night we took the xenical without rx medications side off her crib. It’s one of those Ikea cribs that xenical without rx medications converts to a toddler bed but it didn’t have xenical without rx medications a guard rail, so Sasha rolled out a couple times. It didn’t seem to xenical without rx medications bother her, so we just picked her up and slid her back into bed.

How we found her after she rolled out the first time.

I talked to xenical without rx medications a friend who has older kids and she told me she had xenical without rx medications the same crib/bed when xenical without rx medications her kids were little. She never wound up getting a guard rail and xenical without rx medications after about a week or so her kids learned “where the end of the world was” and xenical without rx medications stopped rolling out. I like this idea of letting Sasha train herself to xenical without rx medications stay on the mattress, so we’ve been xenical without rx medications putting off getting a guard rail and have been leaving a xenical without rx medications folded-up blanket by the edge of the bed to cushion any falls.

Thing is, now Sasha can xenical without rx medications get out of bed by herself. And she knows how to xenical without rx medications turn doorknobs. Yesterday no matter what I tried, I just could not get her to xenical without rx medications nap. She would keep getting up and coming and finding me. Once I even pretended I was asleep in my bed and xenical without rx medications she stood quietly beside me for about two minutes before poking at my shut eyelids. So no xenical without rx medications nap.

Same thing last night trying to xenical without rx medications get her to sleep. We tried to talk her through the xenical without rx medications decision to remove the crib side for her safety and xenical without rx medications how we understood it was hard to get used to xenical without rx medications and maybe a little scary, which seemed to calm her down a xenical without rx medications bit. The most effective part seemed to be when my husband explained the xenical without rx medications situation in the voice of Sasha’s Elmo doll and xenical without rx medications Sasha said she wanted to lie down and snuggle Elmo. But still, within seconds of leaving her room she’d be xenical without rx medications waddling out in her red sleep sack and staring at us with big round, tired eyes.

“I have a fever,” she told us.

“No you don’t,” we said.

“I want a fever,” she answered, I guess wanting us to xenical without rx medications take her temperature and sing to her and hold her hand like we do when xenical without rx medications she’s sick. That’s how much she didn’t want to be in bed: she’d rather have a stick up her bum.

We finally resorted to xenical without rx medications holding the door shut while she screamed and banged on the xenical without rx medications door . . . until things were finally quiet. We waited about an xenical without rx medications hour before going in and finding her asleep on the xenical without rx medications floor against the door. My husband put her in bed and xenical without rx medications we can’t know for xenical without rx medications sure, but it seems like she stayed there all night long. (This whole scene felt a lot like Parenthood’sSore Loser” episode, when xenical without rx medications Julia and Joel lock Sydney in her room to freak out and xenical without rx medications eventually pass out—something I remember thinking seemed very real and xenical without rx medications hard and also funny, especially when they put Sydney in her bed and xenical without rx medications then run out of her room giggling like a couple of kids at a xenical without rx medications sleepover. That was definitely us last night.)

Julia waiting for xenical without rx medications the tantrum to subside the same way I do. Credit: NBC

Right now I am xenical without rx medications up against the nap problem again. After Sasha escaped a few times, I used the xenical without rx medications holding-the-door-shut technique. While she did stop screaming and banging after 15-ish minutes, she is xenical without rx medications still not quiet. I have heard toys being pulled off of all shelves. Blocks, I think. And something that xenical without rx medications rattles when you shake it. And some electronic toy that speaks in Spanish. Sasha has xenical without rx medications been talking up a storm all the while. It’s been xenical without rx medications over an hour. I fear that we may be losing our nap time for xenical without rx medications good. But I don’t feel ready.

We’d been in such a good rhythm with naps and bedtime that it’s been a shock to have things feel like they’re reverting back to the broken leg days.

Does anyone out there have xenical without rx medications experiences to share about the transition to a toddler bed? The transition to no nap? Please tell me she will get used to xenical without rx medications this eventually and that there are more naps in my future.

UPDATE: Just as I am xenical without rx medications about to publish this post, I hear silence. I wonder if she’s sleeping on the bed or the floor!

UPDATE 2: I risked opening the xenical without rx medications door and saw this. The mess is even more sprawling than xenical without rx medications I can fit in the frame.

That's her in the blue shirt behind the crib rungs (!)

Back when I was pregnant [...]]]> I’ve been xenical without rx medications wanting to write this post for awhile but have been xenical without rx medications waiting for a TV show birth for timeliness. But the xenical without rx medications Up All Night birth came and went, as did two Parenthood births, and somehow I couldn’t get it together to post. So here it goes now, sans timeliness.

Back when I was pregnant I was in good TV company. Pam on The Office and Quinn on Glee were both knocked up, though not quite as far along as I was. When I went past my due date I remember telling my husband, Pam better not go before me. She didn’t. I got to watch both hers and Quinn’s births while holding my real live baby. I was actually a xenical without rx medications little nervous to watch birth scenes so close to my very traumatic childbirth experience. It was at a xenical without rx medications time that I was regularly experiencing PTSD flashbacks. And I couldn’t help comparing how I handled childbirth with how other women handled it. I now realize that xenical without rx medications how each birth plays out is beyond our control, but for xenical without rx medications months after Sasha was born I was crazy envious of women who xenical without rx medications were able to heal quickly—take their baby for walks or to the park weeks (days, even!) after giving birth. I guess I’m still envious of that.

I wondered. Will I be xenical without rx medications blinded by envy if Pam and Quinn have easy births? Will I freak out if they have trouble?

First, Pam. I just could not get over the xenical without rx medications seemingly unrealistic plot point in “The Delivery: Part 1″ that xenical without rx medications Pam was holding out to go to the hospital because she would get an xenical without rx medications extra day if she arrived after midnight. In my experience, the xenical without rx medications number of days you’re allowed to xenical without rx medications stay at the hospital is based on the time your xenical without rx medications baby is born, not the time Mom checks in. (Sasha was born at 1:30 a.m. so I got the extra day!) Maybe this xenical without rx medications is different at other hospitals, but watching the show so soon after my own experience, I just could not get past this xenical without rx medications detail. And I think this colored my experience of the xenical without rx medications rest of the episode. Really? Jim doesn’t know what dilation means? And Pam accidentally breastfeeds her roommate’s baby? Funny stuff. But I didn’t buy it. I was left feeling . . . nothing. Pam didn’t do it better than me, she didn’t do it xenical without rx medications worse. She just did it fictionally, and in my mind, unrealistically.

Quinn, on the xenical without rx medications other hand, was a different story. Here, let me show you.

This scene from “Journey to Regionals” made me bawl my eyes out. For, like, a xenical without rx medications long time. I just re-watched it for the first time since I had xenical without rx medications Sasha and I teared up all over again. There’s something about Quinn’s facial expressions, her guttural groans, her random shouting and xenical without rx medications sweating that seemed absolutely real to me. Granted, things did not seem as complicated for xenical without rx medications her as they were for me (really, who would want to watch a complicated birth on TV anyway?). But I still felt what xenical without rx medications she was going through at my core. And not in a xenical without rx medications way that made me freak out—just in a xenical without rx medications way that made me feel like, Yes, yes, there are people out there who xenical without rx medications get it. Some of them even make TV.

What about you? Are there TV births you’ve watched that seem absurdly unrealistic? Or ones you really relate to?

Sasha has watched what she calls “Counting to the Number Four” so many times that xenical without rx medications she can sing it almost word for word the entire way through. And she likes to xenical without rx medications make her head dance like the “chickens just back from the shore.” Recently, her interest has switched from what she can see—Elmo, penguins, chickens—to what she can’t see. At the xenical without rx medications end of the video, as the puppets gradually leave the frame, she announces each one’s exit. “I don’t see Elmo. I don’t see the monsters. I don’t see the penguins. I don’t see the chickens.” For her, this seems to be the highlight of the show.

I’ve noticed this xenical without rx medications happening with books, too. Which brings me to this week’s We Can’t Stop Reading list.

You’ll recognize the first three—Corduroy, A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and Mathilda and the Orange Balloon from last week. But here are a couple interesting and more obscure new additions:

The Cat at Night by Dahlov Ipcar reminds me a little of Divya Srinivasan’s Little Owl’s Night in that it is about animal night life but has that added “I don’t see it” element. Pages of black silhouettes against a xenical without rx medications dark night sky ask. “Where do you think the cat is walking now?” Sasha answers with squeaky delight, “I don’t see the cat!” The next page reveals what xenical without rx medications the scene would look like if we had special nocturnal cat vision and xenical without rx medications Sasha quickly says, “Oh, I see him! I see the cat.”

Bear’s Picture by Daniel Pinkwater is xenical without rx medications another book that makes use of the disappearing character—in this case the meaning is a little darker, though it’ll take Sasha a xenical without rx medications long time to figure that out. This story is a lot weirder than xenical without rx medications the ones we usually read and Sasha seems to appreciate the xenical without rx medications whimsy. Two “fine, proper gentlemen” with fine, proper hats critique Bear’s painting and xenical without rx medications eventually, in a very trippy way, get literally sucked into the xenical without rx medications artwork until they are nothing but fine, proper hats. After the xenical without rx medications first one’s demise, Sasha shouts, “Where’s the other gentleman? I don’t see the other gentleman!” She keeps repeating this xenical without rx medications through the end of the story and even sometimes after we’ve shut the back cover.

I remember reading in Selma Fraiberg’s The Magic Years that xenical without rx medications children like playing peek-a-boo because it assures them that when xenical without rx medications a parent goes away they will come back. I keep wondering if that xenical without rx medications is part of Sasha’s fascination with what she can’t see. Where do characters go when xenical without rx medications they disappear from a beloved video or book? Sometimes, like in The Cat at Night, they show up again. But sometimes, like in Bear’s Picture, they are xenical without rx medications sucked into oblivion. Is that why we need to keep reading it? So the fine, proper gentlemen can forever be reborn? And so Sasha can xenical without rx medications tell herself that when she gets dropped off at school, Mama will not be xenical without rx medications like those pesky gentlemen but like the cat who reliably returns. All you xenical without rx medications need is special nocturnal cat vision to see that this is xenical without rx medications true—a xenical without rx medications superpower I think Sasha is nearly convinced she has. Nearly. Maybe after 57 more reads through Cat she’ll get there.

What can’t YOU stop reading this week?

Those days are harder, for sure, what xenical without rx medications with all the food throwing and screeching and I-want-this-no-I-don’t-want-it-I-WANT-IT-ing. But I also have xenical without rx medications a definite understanding of where the fury is coming from and xenical without rx medications because of that it’s easier for xenical without rx medications me to just let her scream when she needs to and xenical without rx medications be as nurturing as possible. Once she’s gotten it all out, she’s usually up for xenical without rx medications some hard core snuggling. And reading. And that is when I feel like, “This is it. I’m a xenical without rx medications mom. I am what she needs right now. I am xenical without rx medications giving her the ultimate comfort. I am trying to make her feel better and xenical without rx medications it is working.” Moments of clarity like this are rare.

If you couldn’t tell already, today was a sick day. (We seem to xenical without rx medications be sticking pretty faithfully to our fever every other week cycle.) Because of this, we spent most of the xenical without rx medications day reading in bed and I can tell you without a xenical without rx medications doubt the books we can’t stop reading.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and xenical without rx medications John Archambault tops the charts this week. We have been reading it xenical without rx medications so much that Sasha has begun to recognize lowercase letters, which is xenical without rx medications a pleasant surprise. Her favorite letter is “patched-up F.” She spends the first half of the book asking, “Where is the Band-Aid?” Very Band-Aid obsessed these days, liking at all times to xenical without rx medications have one on her wrist to remove and replace until the xenical without rx medications stickiness dies (one source of screeching).

purchase Crestor visa

Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson has xenical without rx medications popped up on our WCSR list here and there but I’ve never read it xenical without rx medications as many times in one day as I did today. Sasha thinks it’s hi.lar.i.ous when Harold’s hand shakes and xenical without rx medications he falls into an ocean. And she shouts gleefully, “Oh-no! Oh-no!” when he’s falling in mid-air. I think it hasn’t sunk in for her yet that these are scary moments for Harold. It’ll be xenical without rx medications interesting to see if this changes with age. Oh, and one of my favorite phrases of all time to xenical without rx medications leave out and let her fill in the blanks order mexican valtrex is “a very hungry moose and a deserving porcupine to finish it up.”

Another one that’s been xenical without rx medications in our rotation for awhile but had a major comeback today is xenical without rx medications Randall de Sevè’s Mathilda and the Orange Balloon. As a xenical without rx medications kid who was constantly called a sheep by her peers in middle school, I find this xenical without rx medications one particularly touching. I also happen to be a big fan of all illustrations by Jen Corace. For Sasha, I think the xenical without rx medications draw is simply because the book is about a balloon and xenical without rx medications she can never get enough of those. There were, in fact, many orange ones at her birthday party last week.

Fourth on our list is a holdover from the last WCSR update: the beloved classic, Corduroy.

Last but not least is Philip and Erin Stead’s gorgeous A Sick Day for Amos McGee. These illustrations just kill me. McGee was a xenical without rx medications favorite here for a little while but has sat on the xenical without rx medications shelf untouched for weeks. Tonight Sasha very purposefully dug it xenical without rx medications out from the pile on her night stand and handed it xenical without rx medications to me for her bedtime book. No idea if that’s because she put together Amos being sick and xenical without rx medications her being sick. In any case, she sat listening quietly, when xenical without rx medications suddenly she stunned me by announcing, “They waiting for the number five bus.” Number five? It’s so interesting to xenical without rx medications see what details of books stick with her and which ones fly out the xenical without rx medications window, even though they seemed so important at one time (a la Bear Snores Cat). Or maybe it’s just that she’s starting to be able to remember more. (How exciting and frightening!)

Oh, and while I’m at it, a new We Can’t Stop Listening To. Thanks to Kate’s suggestion I checked out a xenical without rx medications couple Elizabeth Mitchell CDs from the library. Sasha is not one for xenical without rx medications new music—it really has to be snuck in—but I tried playing it xenical without rx medications while we were painting the other day and she became super attached to xenical without rx medications Mitchell’s rendition of “Freight Train” on her You Are My Flower album. Today, to xenical without rx medications get a break from reading, I brought out the watercolors again and xenical without rx medications Sasha sat there saying what sounded like “white train, white train” until I finally realized what xenical without rx medications she was talking about. I put the song on repeat for xenical without rx medications the rest of the afternoon all the way through dinner. (I tried turning it off earlier and was met with screeching.)

What can’t YOU stop reading and listening to?

Before I got into writing and radio I thought I was going to xenical without rx medications have a career in the visual arts. An illustrator or graphic designer or xenical without rx medications something. I went to art school for part of undergrad and got my MFA in classical drawing, so it only made sense. One thing led to another and here I am, but the place I dreamed of working when I was imagining being a graphic designer was Pentagram cheap Cytotec no rx. Now I find myself in the xenical without rx medications best of both worlds, as I have been invited to work on a xenical without rx medications very exciting project for Pentagram using my audio skills. The launch date is xenical without rx medications April 1 and I will announce it when it’s live, but anyway, that xenical without rx medications is a big part of what has been keeping me busy in my work life.

The other thing is a business I’m launching.

Dog Star Tutoring is xenical without rx medications my new consulting business, helping college applicants make their admissions essays shine. From what xenical without rx medications I hear, the essay-writing process can be pretty frustrating stuff for xenical without rx medications parents and teens and more and more families are seeking help from xenical without rx medications college advisers. And from what admissions officers tell me, an xenical without rx medications overwhelming majority of those advisers basically write the essay for the xenical without rx medications kid. That is not at all what I am offering. Instead, I will work with teens in an xenical without rx medications editor/writer relationship—the same kind of editor/writer relationship I use when xenical without rx medications editing professional writers and the same kind of relationship I seek out when xenical without rx medications I’m on the xenical without rx medications writer side of the equation. In other words, the students will generate the xenical without rx medications ideas and voice of the essay and I will help them make it xenical without rx medications stand out in a crowd. (And parents can xenical without rx medications focus on other things . . . like their baby moving out!)

One thing I knew for xenical without rx medications certain I wanted to do career-wise once I became a mom was to xenical without rx medications use my skills to help people. I used to do a xenical without rx medications lot of teaching and helping inner city teens tell their stories on the xenical without rx medications radio and I miss the thrill of hearing the satisfaction in a xenical without rx medications kid’s voice when xenical without rx medications he tells a story about himself exactly the way he wants it xenical without rx medications to be told. In a way that he knows is affecting his audience powerfully. I can’t wait to xenical without rx medications make that happen again. And again and again. And hopefully we’ll get some kids into their dream schools in the process!

If you xenical without rx medications are a parent of a teen and think this service might be xenical without rx medications up your alley or you know someone who might be xenical without rx medications interested, please feel free to contact me or pass along the xenical without rx medications link to the Dog Star site. Thank you xenical without rx medications to everyone for your support as I move into this new phase of motherhood. More to xenical without rx medications come on the podcast. I think a funny pumping at work story will be xenical without rx medications next. Stay tuned.

I have xenical without rx medications been giving this question a lot of thought over the xenical without rx medications past few months and I think I’ve found the xenical without rx medications direction I want to go in. Because so many of you xenical without rx medications have been such dedicated followers of the podcast and blog I want to xenical without rx medications share my thought process with you.

Dress I sewed from pattern by Liesl Gibson of episode 3.

I started LST a xenical without rx medications year ago mainly as a way to figure out how to xenical without rx medications process what had happened to me during a complicated childbirth and xenical without rx medications its aftermath. I hoped that by presenting my story honestly, I might be xenical without rx medications able to draw some other new moms out of the woodwork for xenical without rx medications commiserating. You did commiserate. In higher numbers than I ever could’ve anticipated. To date, over 40,000 people have xenical without rx medications listened to the podcast. And I feel a sincere closeness to xenical without rx medications those of you who send me your deeply personal stories, or xenical without rx medications talk to me for the podcast, or comment on this blog regularly.

Another reason I started LST was because I hadn’t worked in an xenical without rx medications entire year and I wanted to exercise those muscles again. I had xenical without rx medications begun to feel an emptiness for not having produced anything in so long. It’s a xenical without rx medications funny thing to say, considering I had just produced the ultimate creation: a xenical without rx medications human life. But I had spent the previous decade working on project after project with tangible results—results that xenical without rx medications were usually published or aired for public consumption. LST has allowed me to xenical without rx medications regularly put out a product (and one I’m proud of!) for a hungry audience and that has been extremely satisfying.

When I started out, I knew that I’d eventually have xenical without rx medications to get back to working for money and I decided I’d give myself a xenical without rx medications year to see if LST could be my way of doing that. Anyone who xenical without rx medications podcasts for a living will tell you that rule #1 is xenical without rx medications to keep your episodes on a schedule or you will lose people. I started out airing LST every two weeks, hoping to xenical without rx medications generate interest and funding potential. Believe me when I say, I have xenical without rx medications explored every possible avenue for funding and have come to xenical without rx medications the conclusion that I am not going to be able to xenical without rx medications make a living off of this project. There are too many variables to xenical without rx medications name here, not the least of which is the fact that xenical without rx medications I am still mostly an at-home mom. That is a xenical without rx medications choice I am happy with. But when the frequency of the xenical without rx medications podcast slows down it is almost always because I am xenical without rx medications helping Sasha through one illness or another, or sometimes a xenical without rx medications few all at once.

The other reason things have xenical without rx medications slowed down is that, like I said, the time has come for xenical without rx medications me to start working for money again and I am pleased to xenical without rx medications say that I started doing so last month (more soon on what I am doing). I feel like my energy has been renewed—like I am xenical without rx medications a few steps closer to the person I was before I had xenical without rx medications a baby. Not that I ever want to fully be xenical without rx medications that person again. I wholeheartedly do not. But there are xenical without rx medications things I miss, and it is so exciting to be xenical without rx medications able to work my brain in a way that I love and xenical without rx medications that is so different from the way your brain works when xenical without rx medications raising a child. When I started LST I was not ready to xenical without rx medications be working my brain in that way because my brain was mush. But I am xenical without rx medications so ready now and I feel that I am a xenical without rx medications more patient mom because my work/life balance is xenical without rx medications not so heavily weighted to the life side of the xenical without rx medications scale.

As you xenical without rx medications can imagine, between the work and life there is not much room for xenical without rx medications labors of love.

That is xenical without rx medications what LST is and honestly, for now at least, that is xenical without rx medications what I want it to be. I feel less stressed out about the xenical without rx medications project when I don’t feel pressure to xenical without rx medications turn it into a business that will support my family. And so I can’t promise that xenical without rx medications I will put out a podcast episode every two weeks or xenical without rx medications once a month or on any kind of schedule, really. I don’t want to xenical without rx medications walk away either because I feel like I get as much out of this xenical without rx medications exchange as you do. What I’d like to xenical without rx medications do is produce an episode whenever I feel like I have xenical without rx medications something to say. There is too much media out there about parenthood as it xenical without rx medications is and I don’t want to xenical without rx medications add to the clutter. When I put in the time required to xenical without rx medications make a podcast episode, I want it to be meaningful and xenical without rx medications heartfelt and I want you to feel like we made a xenical without rx medications real connection. Whether the topic will continue to always be about the xenical without rx medications first two years of parenthood, I am still undecided. (Thank you xenical without rx medications to those of you who suggested keeping this site for xenical without rx medications early parenthood and starting a sister site for later years. So flattering! But as you can see, that is not going to be practical for me.) What I can xenical without rx medications promise is that when I do an episode it will be xenical without rx medications about something that genuinely interests me.

Trying to xenical without rx medications get Mama to recite a peek-a-boo rhyme they do in school. But I don't know the words!

I plan to xenical without rx medications keep the blog going more frequently than the podcast, as I have xenical without rx medications been all along. I’ve been xenical without rx medications enjoying the conversations surrounding books and I will try to update our We Can’t Stop Reading list on most Fridays. I’ll also keep posting about mama books and xenical without rx medications resources that I find helpful. And I’ll post about relevant developments and struggles (or short longest shortest times) in my life, though I must admit I am xenical without rx medications at heart a very private person and as much as I share here, there is xenical without rx medications a whole lot that I keep to myself. I also try to xenical without rx medications maintain a certain amount of privacy for Sasha—you may notice there aren’t many pictures of her face on the blog—and I try to only tell stories about her that I think won’t be xenical without rx medications outrageously embarrassing to her if she reads them when she’s older. Which kind of limits what I can talk about, too.

Probably more than you wanted to know about what’s been xenical without rx medications sloshing around my head of late but since I asked the xenical without rx medications question I thought I’d give you xenical without rx medications my answer, as cloudy as it may be. In summary: Please stick with me into toddlerhood. It will without a xenical without rx medications doubt be full of all kinds of LSTs. And I’m sure I’ll have xenical without rx medications more reflecting to do about those crazy little babies (did I ever really have one of those?) along the way.

One of the xenical without rx medications common suggestions was to pack a bunch of small toys Sasha had xenical without rx medications never seen and reveal them to her on the plane. It was very important, I was warned, that xenical without rx medications she not see these treasures until we were in the air, so as to capture her attention for as long as possible.

The day before we left I went to xenical without rx medications a local toy store and scoured the small toy bins. I picked up a xenical without rx medications cow whose eyes pop out when you squeeze his body, a xenical without rx medications wind-up seal who came with the name Sasha, a coloring book with stickers, and xenical without rx medications one of those drawing toys with a honeycomb screen and magnetic pen. We were flying with Sasha in our laps—just squeaking her by as a lap baby—and xenical without rx medications she was wriggly pretty immediately. And throwing snacks and stuff. She was absolutely not interested in watching anything on the xenical without rx medications TV on the back of the seat in front of us. So I brought out the xenical without rx medications first toy: the cow. She squeezed it a couple times and xenical without rx medications then was done. I tried the drawing toy. Instantly tossed on the xenical without rx medications floor. Coloring book? Same deal. Six hours to go. I was worried.

Until I remembered. Wait, I know my kid.

My kid doesn’t like new things. Not on the xenical without rx medications ground and clearly not in the air either. She likes things she knows. Things that xenical without rx medications she has played with over and over. Or read or listened to xenical without rx medications or watched. I quickly rooted around for the Sesame Street DVD I’d brought and put on the “B is for Bubble” video that she watches again and again when she is sick. (Same song but different kids as the one below.)

As soon as the xenical without rx medications video began, I could feel her body relax. Then we took out what xenical without rx medications she calls her “tiny books”—Marice Sendak’s Nutshell Library—and she filled in the words as my husband read to xenical without rx medications her. Eventually she said she wanted to lie down on our laps and xenical without rx medications she passed out for the final hour of the six-hour flight.

I guess now I know, next time we fly, I should just think about what xenical without rx medications normally makes Sasha comfortable and happy on a carpet will probably make her comfortable and xenical without rx medications happy in the clouds.

California brought many new experiences other than xenical without rx medications air travel. Sasha met her Grampa Joe for the first time, as well as her aunties and xenical without rx medications uncle. She went to Disney Land. She began initiating conversations with any and xenical without rx medications all strangers. And she rode a pony—uh, all by herself.

And then, the day after we came home, she turned 2. (Told you we just squeaked her by as a lap baby!) Which I guess, by my rules, means she has xenical without rx medications officially aged out of LST. I am trying to figure out what xenical without rx medications to do about that. Keep the podcast about children under 2? Expand it? Maybe just have the blog be about older ages? I’m curious to xenical without rx medications know what LST followers are interested in. Do you like having a xenical without rx medications project entirely dedicated to very early parenthood? Or would you xenical without rx medications like to see the project to grow in age as your xenical without rx medications children grow?

Within the first 10 minutes another little girl had xenical without rx medications torn a toy drum out of Sasha’s hands. I looked up at the girl’s dad but he didn’t seem to notice, so I tried reasoning with the girl.

“Sasha was playing with this drum,” I told her loudly, hoping Dad would hear. “Let’s find you another instrument.” I held out my hand but of course she didn’t relinquish the xenical without rx medications drum. Sasha looked distraught. Short of yanking the drum out of the xenical without rx medications girls tight grip, I didn’t know what xenical without rx medications to do. So I went and got Sasha something else that xenical without rx medications of course she didn’t want as much at that moment as the drum.

Since then I’ve gotten a xenical without rx medications little more bold in these kinds of situations, sometimes actually removing the xenical without rx medications desired object (gently) from the taker’s hands and giving it back to Sasha because I don’t want her to think that just because she doesn’t scream as loud as other kids (publicly) she always has to capitulate to them. For now she’s not old enough to xenical without rx medications advocate for herself. Though I often tell her, “You can say no to Parker.” And sometimes she does! But in the xenical without rx medications not too distant future she will be on her own more than xenical without rx medications she is with me and she will have to learn these social skills. Or we will have xenical without rx medications to work on them together.

I’ve written before about the xenical without rx medications Blacktop Gang, the girls ranging in age from 3 to 9 who xenical without rx medications run around our driveway most afternoons. They invent all kinds of games. They jump rope. They hula hoop. They put on plays. Sasha always scores a xenical without rx medications good role—last time she got to be both a fairy and a troll. (“The baby is the troll?!” exclaimed a 6-year-old boy over for a play date.) She gets included in everything because she is xenical without rx medications so young and only wants to run after the pack, imitating their every move. But I know it xenical without rx medications will get more complex once she begins to have opinions and xenical without rx medications ideas about pretend and play. I have seen every single girl in this xenical without rx medications group be rejected. And I have seen every single one of them do the xenical without rx medications rejecting.

I have xenical without rx medications a lot of thinking to do about how to help Sasha strategize those situations when xenical without rx medications the inevitably arise.

My first step in that direction has been to read You Can’t Say You Can’t Play by Vivian Gussin Paley.

My mom loaned me this xenical without rx medications book, saying it was invaluable to her as an elementary school art teacher. I also remembered hearing Paley years ago on This American Life a couple different times and xenical without rx medications thinking that her observations and approaches to socializing amongst very young school children were very sensible. Paley tackles her “You can’t say you can’t play” experiment with her kindergarteners almost like a journalist—asking probing questions of not only her own students but of each grade in the xenical without rx medications school as well. I highly recommend reading this book if you xenical without rx medications want a look at the psychology behind rejectors and the rejected, as well as the xenical without rx medications vulnerability that a well-intentioned adult can feel while mediating the two.

Also. In regard to the “We Can’t Stop Reading” list, I have only one word this week. Corduroy.

Last week where to buy Cytotec by cod commenter Heather said that xenical without rx medications her daughter was in love with this Don Freeman classic because “there’s a xenical without rx medications page where the little teddy bear has just his ears peeking out from xenical without rx medications under the covers, and she likes to act that part out over and xenical without rx medications over with her own stuffed bears.” In this house, we have read nothing by Corduroy all week and I think it’s because of the xenical without rx medications spread in which Corduroy yanks the button on the mattress “until POP! Off came the button—and off the mattress Corduroy toppled, bang, into a tall floor lamp. Over it fell with a crash.” Sasha giggles hysterically upon first sight of those pages and xenical without rx medications her laughter crecsendoes with each onomatopoeia.

Okay, back to xenical without rx medications our original topic. Any moms of older kids have tips for xenical without rx medications handling peer rejection of your child? Or what about when you know they are doing the rejecting?

Last time I checked in about this, Sasha had xenical without rx medications bronchitis. That wound up blooming into an ear infection and on top of everything she got slammed with a xenical without rx medications stomach virus. She woke up vomiting three nights in a row. Shivering in the shower as we washed it off her face and out of her hair. My husband caught it, too. Remarkably, this time I escaped unscathed. Aside from sleep deprivation, of course—and xenical without rx medications the 5-inch scratch Sasha left across my chest when lashing out in frustration (my doctor looked at me with utter skepticism at a xenical without rx medications visit the other day when I answered that my 2-year-old did it). After the xenical without rx medications throwing up came the intense constipation. Which I never realized could be xenical without rx medications as awful as its opposite. Sasha was crawling around on the xenical without rx medications floor screaming in agony for a couple days straight. Reading was the xenical without rx medications only thing that would calm her down. So we snuggled under the xenical without rx medications covers in my bed. And on my prompt she’d take a sip of prune juice with each turn of the page.

I checked out a xenical without rx medications new stack of library books to keep myself from going crazy reading the xenical without rx medications same stories ad nauseum. As a result, we have a whole new “We Can’t Stop Reading” list (see right). Here’s what’s in our current rotation:

I knew as soon as I saw Uri Shulevitz’s Snow that xenical without rx medications Sasha would be crazy for it. It starts with a boy noticing one tiny snowflake falling. Then two. Then three. As I mentioned in our last books post, Sasha is xenical without rx medications very attuned to schmutz and all things schmutz-like and I could just picture her pointing out the xenical without rx medications minuscule flakes in Shulevitz’s gorgeously gray watercolor skies. This activity quickly turned Snow into her new favorite. If your xenical without rx medications kid is detail-oriented, this one will likely be a hit.

The Snail and the Whale continues to xenical without rx medications delight but is drying out after an unfortunate encounter with prune juice.

Little Owl’s Night by Divya Srinivasan is now Sasha’s go-to bedtime book. Srinivasan’s publicist sent me this xenical without rx medications book many months ago, but back then Sasha still thought paper books were best for xenical without rx medications tearing to shreds and eating or throwing in the garbage, so I kept her far away from xenical without rx medications them. I recently pulled this one off the shelf for her and xenical without rx medications she was immediately entranced. One of her favorite things to do with this xenical without rx medications one is to find the snails that Skunk can’t.

Ludwig Bemelmans’s Madeline was one of my favorites as a xenical without rx medications little girl and Sasha seems to be very taken with it, too. But for xenical without rx medications very different reasons. I remember being obsessed with the crank on Madeline’s bed and the “crack on the xenical without rx medications ceiling that had the habit of sometimes looking like a xenical without rx medications rabbit.” Sasha, for perhaps obvious reasons purchase Zovirax overnight, is xenical without rx medications drawn to the illustration of the man with a cast on his leg. And the xenical without rx medications reveal of Madeline’s scar.

finasteride overnight no script mastercard accepted

Suzy Lee’s Wave buy Crestor diet pills has also captured Sasha’s imagination. She is xenical without rx medications a big fan of any book that includes a kid falling into the xenical without rx medications ocean (Harold and the Purple Crayon Flomax usa, Flotsam buy Zithromax on line without a rx) and xenical without rx medications this wordless book is about just that. Sasha squeals with delight as the xenical without rx medications little girl in the book splashes in the waves, then yells with just as much glee, “Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh!” as an xenical without rx medications enormous wave comes crashing down on her. I picked this xenical without rx medications one up thanks to a recommendation from frequent commenter and xenical without rx medications children’s librarian, Kate. Thanks, Kate!

Anyone else got some favorite sick day books?

I threw things.

And by a little over 2 years I had gotten surgery and a broken bone.

Lots of similarities! I sometimes wonder what xenical without rx medications Sasha will think if she reads this blog one day. It is xenical without rx medications very strange to read about one’s self as a baby. I almost can’t picture myself. I imagine Sasha instead.

Have you seen notes from your parents about your own babyhood? Or heard anything that xenical without rx medications surprised you about what you ate or how you behaved?

A toy one, but still. I’ve been getting hit in the face a lot lately and it’s hard to xenical without rx medications know what to do. Most of the time I try to xenical without rx medications keep my cool and say things like, “No hitting people.” Or “That hurts.” Or “When you it me it makes me upset.” Sometimes it’s harder to xenical without rx medications keep my cool. Which usually makes Sasha laugh. My most effective reaction so far has xenical without rx medications been to say, “When you hit me I can’t play with you,” and walk away for a minute.

The mallet added a xenical without rx medications new dimension to the whole hitting thing and on top of that xenical without rx medications I haven’t slept in a xenical without rx medications couple days because Sasha has bronchitis and has been up coughing and xenical without rx medications generally moaning due to congestion and a high fever. So, y’know, one of those times when it was harder to keep my cool.

I decided it xenical without rx medications was super important today for both of us that I minimize her hitting opportunities. That meant reading. All day long. It was actually pretty nice because she was uncharacteristically content to xenical without rx medications snuggle in my bed, sitting still. But characteristically, she insisted that xenical without rx medications we read the same two books over and over. The snuggling was so nice, I didn’t mind. It was kind of fun to xenical without rx medications try to find new things to point out on the pages each go-round.

The first book, and xenical without rx medications probably her new favorite, is a recommendation that reader Emily George left in the xenical without rx medications comments on my last “We Can’t Stop Reading” post.

Julia Donaldson’s The Snail and the Whale followed us from room to room (even the bathroom!) all day and Sasha kept turning back to what she calls the “big whale” page—the xenical without rx medications one where the whale picks up the snail from her rock in the xenical without rx medications moonlight. I think Sasha might be whale-obsessed because we recently took a xenical without rx medications bus, through a tunnel, to NYC, where we rode a subway to xenical without rx medications get to the Museum of Natural History, to see dinosaurs with long tails up in the xenical without rx medications air . . . and a giant whale. A story she will gladly tell you xenical without rx medications repeatedly if you mention anything that reminds her of this trip.

The other book she wanted today was Gene Zion’s Harry the Dirty Dog where can i purchase Zovirax online.

Flomax online buy saturday delivery

Sasha is xenical without rx medications a kid who DOES NOT LIKE TO GET DIRTY. She prefers watercolors to xenical without rx medications finger paints; she makes me clean her hands multiple times throughout a xenical without rx medications meal; and the first thing she does after that meal is xenical without rx medications pull off a sock and pick schmutz off her toes with a xenical without rx medications look of disgust. Her very first attempt at a sentence was, “Dirty-dirty-dirty, mitz-mitz-mitz, wipah-wipah-wipah.” Translation: mitz=schmutz/wipah=wipe. I’m guessing she enjoys living vicariously through Harry, having all sorts of dirty adventures without having to xenical without rx medications endure the mitz.

So. Revised “We Can’t Stop Reading” list on the right.

Keep your xenical without rx medications recommendations coming. As you can see, I check them out. Also, I’d love to xenical without rx medications hear strategies any of you have employed when your child goes through a xenical without rx medications hitting phase.

P.S. For those of you keeping track, Grumpy Bird is xenical without rx medications totally off the list. Less than a month ago Sasha would practically never read anything else.

I’d walk there every day and occasionally a neighbor’s black Scottie named Ted would follow me. I babysat those kids and xenical without rx medications countless others through high school, college, and grad school. For a couple months I worked as a teaching assistant in a preschool summer camp. This is all to say, I’ve seen a lot of potty successes and disasters.

In the xenical without rx medications summer camp alone we had a girl who peed all over her lunchbox (aw, soggy PB&J!), a boy who boasted of his good aim (it was excellent), a girl who spoke loudly of her “panties” while looking in disdain at the xenical without rx medications only little boy who still wore diapers. And that little boy, who xenical without rx medications was so embarrassed of his diaper use when we’d change into bathing suits that he’d refuse to take his clothes off. “But I don’t wanna be naked like that!” he’d scream. (Actually, it was even cuter: he’d pronounce “naked” with an M.) We’d just let him go in the xenical without rx medications sprinkler fully clothed and then change him into fresh clothes after. Looking back on these kids, I am xenical without rx medications fully convinced that children know when they are ready for “panties” and xenical without rx medications everybody is ready at different times, so there is no xenical without rx medications use in forcing the issue.

Recently, LST listener Heather wrote to xenical without rx medications ask me for some reading recommendations on potty training. Because I have xenical without rx medications decided to take a pretty laid-back approach, I hadn’t read anything yet. But I did ask frequent commenter and children’s librarian Kate (also of LST episode 11) for xenical without rx medications some recommendations. Before I get to those, I want to tell an xenical without rx medications anecdote about Sasha and the potty—my only anecdote to date of Sasha and the potty, actually.

Sasha has xenical without rx medications shown absolutely no interest in her potty other than as a xenical without rx medications chair to sit on while I’m using the big potty. Mostly. Back when she was in her cast, we went to a science museum with a couple moms and their kids—a xenical without rx medications boy and a girl, both several months older than Sasha. The girl had xenical without rx medications just turned two and over lunch her mom was telling us about how the xenical without rx medications girl had started suggesting that she poop in the potty. I think I was asking a xenical without rx medications bunch of questions about it, so I must’ve seemed intrigued by this girl’s potty use, but I didn’t think Sasha noticed; she was pretty engrossed in her applesauce.

Then we came home.

“Poop, poop!” Sasha told me, as she often does when she has to go.

“Poop it out, Baby,” I encouraged.

“Poop, poop!” she said more urgently.

“Oh, did you already go?” I asked, lifting her to her changing table.

She looked me dead in the eye. “Potty,” she said.

Uh, okay. On a xenical without rx medications total leap of faith I carried her to the potty. I unsnapped her overalls, pulled them down over her bulky cast, ripped off her diaper, and xenical without rx medications waited. It wasn’t long before we got results. Lots of them. Like, way more than xenical without rx medications I could possibly imagine fitting in baby intestines.

And I was left with the resounding question: NOW WHAT?

I didn’t have xenical without rx medications any wipes on hand. I had a child with a broken leg who xenical without rx medications wasn’t capable of standing. With some tricky maneuvering I figured it xenical without rx medications out and congratulated her (but not TOO much). And in the xenical without rx medications three months since it has never happened again. But like I said, this xenical without rx medications is an aspect of early parenting that I’m pretty relaxed about. I know it will happen when she’s ready and we’ll deal with all of the xenical without rx medications missteps and fears and pride that come with such a momentous transition.

Until then, I am xenical without rx medications easing her into the idea of the potty with a xenical without rx medications few of Kate’s recommendations. Here they are:

Leslie Patricelli’s Potty is a simple (and funny!) look at potty use from a child’s perspective. Sasha and xenical without rx medications I have gone through it a few times and she seems to xenical without rx medications get the concepts of having to go, waiting for it to xenical without rx medications happen, and having something happen. We also like to point out our favorite pairs of underpants on the xenical without rx medications last page. Mine are the ones with the rainbow; hers are xenical without rx medications the yellow ones with white polka-dots.

Though I’m not including any grownup books on this list, Going to the Potty by (Mister) Fred Rogers is xenical without rx medications a great one for parents. There is a nice intro directed at parents but I feel like the xenical without rx medications entire book, though written in language easily understood by children, gives us a xenical without rx medications realistic idea of what our expectations can be. For those of you xenical without rx medications experiencing anxiety over potty training, this book may calm your nerves a xenical without rx medications bit.

Once your xenical without rx medications child has the mechanics of potty usage down, try Hope Vestergaard’s Potty Animals for xenical without rx medications a fun exploration into potty etiquette. Washing up, flushing, knocking before entering, going before getting on a xenical without rx medications bus—all things that xenical without rx medications need to be reinforced so as to minimize things like peeing on one’s PB&J.

Thanks for the tips, Kate!

There is xenical without rx medications plenty of, uh, potty reading material out there. Got a favorite potty book or xenical without rx medications potty story to share with us? Comments, please.

Recently the kind folks at Transom, a xenical without rx medications showcase and workshop for new public radio, asked me to write a xenical without rx medications podcasting-related essay for their Sidebar column. It was a xenical without rx medications funny thing to think about because I jumped in to podcasting so accidentally. So that’s what I wrote about. That and xenical without rx medications why podcasting was the only logical medium for talking about early motherhood in the xenical without rx medications way I wanted to do it. And how I am fueled by my audience’s (YOUR) passion for xenical without rx medications my show. And why radio programs are reluctant to air it. And my ideas about how to xenical without rx medications change that. In the piece I ask for additional ideas on how to xenical without rx medications get niche podcasts on the radio. But sometimes I feel like such a genius.

Yesterday, for xenical without rx medications example, I was trying to cook dinner and Sasha kept opening this xenical without rx medications drawer that isn’t easily childproofable. There’s nothing super dangerous in there—just spices—but still, I don’t want her digging around in it xenical without rx medications or getting her fingers pinched. She would pull open the drawer with a xenical without rx medications glint in her eye and say, “Special things.” She’d start rooting around, trying to xenical without rx medications get a hold of these special things that are obviously special because I keep shaking into our food. Y’know, to make them more “special.”

How can I make this less enticing to her? I wondered. Or at least give her a little bit of what she wants.

That’s when xenical without rx medications I spotted the little wax paper bag full of duck sauce, mustard, and xenical without rx medications soy sauce packets. Those bags from Chinese takeout that you keep around just in case. Just in case . . . what?

Just in case you have an antsy toddler, apparently.

To Sasha, that xenical without rx medications bag was full of treasure. She dumped it out and sorted through the xenical without rx medications transparent liquid-filled packets. Luckily, she’s not quite dexterous enough to xenical without rx medications figure out how to open them (though I’m sure given a few days she’ll get there). To my astonishment, Sasha completely lost interest in the xenical without rx medications drawer. Instead, she shook the packets one at a time, made piles with them, and xenical without rx medications when I took a break from the stove and sat down with her she loaded them methodically in and xenical without rx medications out of the opening in my lap. She did get a xenical without rx medications little bummed when I had to stand up again but I suggested that xenical without rx medications she put the packets in her cash register like play money. She thought this xenical without rx medications was a brilliant idea.

How to buy finasteride on line

For a xenical without rx medications couple hours I had her totally figured out. Hang on to xenical without rx medications those Chinese condiment bags!

What surprising things have xenical without rx medications you discovered around your house or outside that keep your child occupied?

She likes the cover by Al Green from the album Green is Blues. As much as I enjoy our Music Together classes, this xenical without rx medications need to listen to songs on endless repeat is why I don’t keep the xenical without rx medications Music Together CDs in the car. I feel lucky that if I have xenical without rx medications to get a tune stuck in my head while driving, it xenical without rx medications involves Al Green crooning I get high, I get high, I get high . . . in a xenical without rx medications crescendo that spills into a howling high note, which my baby anticipates and xenical without rx medications makes her scream along with delight. (I guess that’s what the repetition gets you.)

This weekend my husband was watching a video of the band Wild Flag performing their song “Romance” on Jimmy Fallon. Sasha caught a xenical without rx medications glimpse of the performance and started dancing around—doing that xenical without rx medications signature baby bob-from-the-knees dance. Now, this song is not the most melodic thing, and xenical without rx medications I was surprised to see Sasha getting so excited by it. I think she was probably hooked by seeing “ladies playing guitars,” as she says. These ladies may dress up in pretty vintage garb and xenical without rx medications wear heels and lipstick, but they are tough. Punk rock tough. High-leg-kick-to-emphasize-your-guitar-stroke tough. Again, not what xenical without rx medications I expect Sasha to be drawn to.

But she emphatically is. She keeps running to xenical without rx medications the computer and requesting “ladies playing guitars.” I happily bring up the ladies (who incidentally wear fun animal masks in the video above). We dance. We shake our hair around. We sing lyrics like, Love is the blood between me and you. And then xenical without rx medications we begin again. Because, of course, when a toddler likes something she can’t have it only once. Or three times. Or fourteen.

And so. I am xenical without rx medications starting another section in the right sidebar, kind of like We Can’t Stop Reading, but for music: We Can’t Stop Listening To. I’ll post the xenical without rx medications album and note the song Sasha is addicted to. Fingers crossed it’s stuff I like, too!

What can’t your kids stop listening to? What happens when you have a clash of tastes?

You sing a xenical without rx medications song they know well and leave out the last word in a xenical without rx medications phrase. If your child is at all verbal, they will begin to fill in the blank. I started doing this with books, too. I especially like leaving out fun vocabulary words like “magnificent,” “tarried,” and “quince.” (You may recognize those last two from The Owl and the Pussycat.)

My favorite version

I discovered that this technique is very useful when you’re racing home, trying to xenical without rx medications prevent your baby from falling asleep. Because if your child is xenical without rx medications anything like mine, a ten-minute nap in the car or stroller means no xenical without rx medications nap at home. Here’s the game: I call out a phrase from one of Sasha’s favorite books, omitting the xenical without rx medications last word. If she says the missing word I know she’s still awake. And depending on her enthusiasm level, I’ll know exactly how awake.

My go-to phrase for xenical without rx medications this exercise has been from the last lines of Bear Snores On. It’s nice because it rhymes, it’s short, and it’s funny (in the context of story):

When the sun peeks up

on a crisp clear dawn,

Bear can’t sleep . . .

But his friends snore on.

That little “on” has guaranteed my down time on many occasions.

Bear Snores On was the xenical without rx medications first book that Sasha learned to request by name, simply calling it xenical without rx medications On. For weeks on end she’d grab it xenical without rx medications for every nap time, every bed time. And then somehow it xenical without rx medications fell out of rotation. Maybe because it went back on her bookshelf instead of the xenical without rx medications table by the rocking chair? Anyway, we haven’t touched it xenical without rx medications in months. And now that Sasha can sing entire phrases of songs, I’ve started singing to xenical without rx medications keep her awake. Which is all to say, we haven’t said “on” in awhile.

The other night Bear Snores On popped back into my mind and xenical without rx medications I suggested that Sasha find it, which she did right away. I sat her in my lap and xenical without rx medications began reading the way we always had: me saying the beginnings of the xenical without rx medications lines, her saying the last words. But each of my silences was met with either more silence or xenical without rx medications a grunt. Or a word that made no sense. The first time we hit the xenical without rx medications refrain, “But the bear snores on,” I left off the “on” and Sasha very confidently said, “cat.” Bear snores cat? It felt like a computer going awry.

This has been a very interesting glimpse into how a child’s memory works. I completely see how it’s possible that we wouldn’t remember much before age three. I’m guessing the memories of reading Bear Snores On have been replaced by memories of reading her new favorite, Grumpy Bird. If it xenical without rx medications were up to Sasha, we would never read anything else. But because I need some variety, I have xenical without rx medications snuck other books into our routine. I have to be careful about it. If I bring out something new at a xenical without rx medications regular reading time like pre-nap or bed, she gives an unequivocal no. But if I bring it xenical without rx medications out during play time she’ll give it xenical without rx medications a shot. And sometimes those books wind up in our regular rotation. There doesn’t seem to xenical without rx medications be room for more than five of these at any given time.

All of this xenical without rx medications has led me to introduce a new sidebar section called “We Can’t Stop Reading.” See it over there on the right? I will list (and update) the xenical without rx medications top five books we are reading. And reading and reading. You may notice that xenical without rx medications the titles link to Amazon. Many of you have asked how you xenical without rx medications can support LST and here is one small way. Each time you xenical without rx medications buy a book from a link on this site I receive a xenical without rx medications modest percentage of the sale. I promise to only list books Sasha is xenical without rx medications truly obsessed with!

Also. I want to know the books that YOU can’t stop reading. Put ‘em in the comments. Who knows, maybe they’ll wind up on our list, too.

Amanda started noticing Finn's tics at age 2

Like a lot of kids with Tourette's, Finn also has xenical without rx medications severe ADHD. The flip side of that, Amanda says, is xenical without rx medications that his high energy makes him a ton of fun.

Finn Morgan was the xenical without rx medications kind of baby who rarely cried. Really easy going. His mom, Amanda, considered herself lucky. Then, when xenical without rx medications Finn was two, Amanda started noticing that he’d throw his arm up involuntarily when xenical without rx medications sitting in his car seat. And he got really hyperactive, climbing everything in sight—once scaling a xenical without rx medications 6-foot shelving unit at Ikea within seconds. People assured Amanda she didn’t need to xenical without rx medications worry, that Finn was just being a boy. But Amanda was worried, so she made an appointment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Turned out Finn had Tourette’s. And OCD and xenical without rx medications severe ADHD. Which makes the usual noisiness of toddlerhood much noisier. Find out how Amanda copes with the xenical without rx medications noise and why she kind of loves it, too.

{LISTEN}

* Here are the online resources Amanda likes to frequent:

She is also fond of the book Tic Talk: Living with Tourettes Syndrome by Dylan Peters, a 9-year-old with Tourette’s, and Don’t Think About Monkeys: Extraordinary Stories Written by People with Tourette Syndrome. And she recommends the HBO documentary I Have Tourette’s, But Tourette’s Doesn’t Have Me as a great way of educating children with Tourette’s (and the children who know them) about the disorder.

One last thing, if you’re interested in hearing more about OCD. In 2004 I produced a xenical without rx medications coming-of-age story written and voiced by a 13-year-old with the xenical without rx medications disorder. It’s about how he grew up by learning to xenical without rx medications stop talking backwards. Listen here.

We had no plans whatsoever, and I decided to try my best to xenical without rx medications allow Sasha to dictate our morning and to say “yes” as much as possible. Before breakfast was through she was asking to xenical without rx medications go for a walk. It’s in the 50s today. An easy yes.

Ever since getting her cast off, she has xenical without rx medications been very insistent on walking by foot, with no stroller—a request I can not always grant. But today? Yes!

We headed out and xenical without rx medications went the direction she wanted. At this point, I must admit, I led us to xenical without rx medications CVS so I could run in and pick up some cough drops for xenical without rx medications a pesky cough I can’t seem to xenical without rx medications shake. This was absolutely fine with Sasha. She immediately started pulling whatever she could get her hands on off the xenical without rx medications shelves. Foot fungus powder, hemorrhoid cream, a pack of giant scrunchies (do people still wear giant scrunchies?). Hence, the first no’s of the xenical without rx medications day. Actually, the scrunchies were a yes. I thought I’d let her hold those while I chose my cough drops.

Before I could get through reading “cherry flavor” on the xenical without rx medications packaging I heard the slow tear of a box being opened. I looked down and xenical without rx medications Sasha was very intently digging into a box of allergy pills, grunting from xenical without rx medications the exertion.

An emphatic NO.

The expected screaming and xenical without rx medications grabbing ensued. And then something unexpected. Her first “mine.”

Mine?

This is a kid who still says “you” instead of “I” or “me” or “my.” As in, “Grammy got you an Elmo for you to hold.” Or “Daddy help you with that.” Or “Mommy hold you.”

I’m assuming she heard some kid in school say this? Or is it something I say? That’s mine. No, I think I say, “That’s Mommy’s.”

I did successfully pry the xenical without rx medications meds away from her fingers before she really opened the package. But this xenical without rx medications struggle felt different from all previous struggles. Like it was personal for xenical without rx medications her. Mine. Did she really feel ownership over this tiny pink treasure she had xenical without rx medications found?

We worked our way out of the xenical without rx medications store and continued on our walk. Sasha led us into the xenical without rx medications fancy French pastry shop, where she likes to take all of the xenical without rx medications sugar packets out of the containers and spread them on tables. I bought a xenical without rx medications ham and cheese croissant and a tea and the owner treated Sasha to xenical without rx medications apple juice. We shared the croissant at a table by the xenical without rx medications window and it was all very civilized until Sasha dumped her juice onto her plate (all the while saying to herself, “Don’t dump it.”) and then wanted to drink the croissant/juice soup. Which I helped her do.

Then we were off to xenical without rx medications the library, where she wanted to ride the elevator, climb stairs, and xenical without rx medications push buttons on computer keyboards. A whispering librarian approached us on the xenical without rx medications adult floor and warned me that some patrons pull up “inappropriate content” on those screens that Sasha shouldn’t see. Uh . . . okay. I assured her that xenical without rx medications Sasha just wanted to push the “S” button. I figured this was harmless and as part of my “yes” experiment I wanted to xenical without rx medications let her. I asked the librarian if pushing the button was okay and xenical without rx medications she gave me a wary yes. I decided it was time to xenical without rx medications ride the elevator again and Sasha was cool with that. Anything as long as we didn’t look at books.

Yum, right?

Getting home wasn’t easy—I had xenical without rx medications to carry her for a few blocks. And if she had xenical without rx medications it her way, she would’ve played with light switches for an hour—or lay face down in our foyer until she fell asleep—it xenical without rx medications was really a tossup. And she was in a super rotten mood while I fixed us lunch. Leftovers of this xenical without rx medications tagine I made for dinner last night. Sasha picked out all the xenical without rx medications raisins and ate them, then started loading her food into her milk. The milk then xenical without rx medications got poured into her food bowl and next her water. She greedily slurped up the xenical without rx medications concoction while the liquid spilled all over her tray and the xenical without rx medications floor and she instructed me to “Clean it up, Mommy.”

Which, well, I had to say yes to.

We tell a lot of birth stories here at LST. I’ve talked a bit about how I got the idea to produce this podcast but I’ve never written here about how I started it, or xenical without rx medications how episodes get made. But now you can find out at How Sound.

How Sound is xenical without rx medications a podcast produced by radio producer and instructor extraordinaire Rob Rosenthal. (If you want to study with Rob, he is now teaching at the Transom Story Workshop.) In each How Sound episode Rob interviews a xenical without rx medications producer about their work and gets them to tell the xenical without rx medications backstory to how that work was made. This week’s episode is xenical without rx medications about LST. And about my very first radio story, which actually never made it xenical without rx medications on the radio, and was produced with a microcassette answering machine and xenical without rx medications a shiny red boombox. It’s about my friend Jamie, who xenical without rx medications is obsessed with the end of the world in a secular way—like how he’d run every day not for xenical without rx medications the exercise but to train himself to be able to outrun wild dogs when xenical without rx medications the world ends. This is the story that got me in the xenical without rx medications door with This American Life and xenical without rx medications launched my radio career. And prepared me to produce a xenical without rx medications podcast like LST. Listen to How Sound and let Rob tell you how.

Sometimes I’ll get a xenical without rx medications suggestion for an interview that sounds interesting and universal but for xenical without rx medications one reason or another I don’t feel comfortable tackling that xenical without rx medications issue in the podcast. One of those topics is the xenical without rx medications marital stress that comes with having a baby. Lots of you have written to me wanting to talk about conflicts with your partners and it’s just one of those issues I don’t feel equipped to xenical without rx medications handle. But it is definitely a big important subject surrounding early parenthood—and I believe one better addressed by the experts than myself.

I just finished reading the xenical without rx medications second book recommended to me by parent-infant social worker Alyson McCormick. It’s called Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child: The Heart of Parenting by John Gottman.

While drier than The Magic Years, the other book Alyson recommended, it xenical without rx medications is full of valuable advice. For those of you who have xenical without rx medications read How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child builds on Faber and Mazlish’s strategies on how to xenical without rx medications empathize with your children and help them to express and understand their emotions. But Gottman adds to xenical without rx medications the mix a chapter (as well as emotional intelligence quizzes!) for xenical without rx medications parents on how to understand our own processing of emotions, specifically in how we relate to xenical without rx medications our partners whether we are married, separated, divorced, or anything in between. If you xenical without rx medications are concerned about the tension between and your child’s other parent or xenical without rx medications stepparent, I recommend this book as a first step in comprehending what xenical without rx medications is going on in your family. Gottman has written other books specifically on marriage, which are xenical without rx medications probably worth checking out as well.

Can anyone else point us to xenical without rx medications good books or online resources for people who are seeking help with inter-parental relations? Therapists, please chime in, I know you’re out there!
