A Book to (Really) Make Any New Mom Laugh

Remember Sara Given from Episode #43: It’s Like She Knows Us? Sara was the member of our Facebook group for mamas, who took a funny thread from the group and unwittingly spun it into a viral Tumblr blog overnight. The concept of It’s Like They Know Us is simple: 1) find ridiculous parenting stock photos and 2) add snarky captions.

In my early days of motherhood, I was in desperate need of some humor. But the parenting humor genre tends to be pretty dumb and corny, and I was not in the mood to groan. It would’ve been nice to have something sharp and witty, and a little dark. Y’know, the way I like my humor in the rest of my life. Sara’s blog totally fits that bill, and I’m pleased to say that you can now find her hilarious skewering of picture-perfect parenthood in her beautiful book Parenting Is Easy: You’re Probably Just Doing It Wrong. If this book had been around five years ago, it would’ve had a permanent fixture on my bedside (air-mattress-side?) table, along with my industrial strength breast pump, painkillers, and graham crackers (to take with the meds in the middle of the night, of course!). And it would’ve followed me to the bathroom for sitz bath reading, for sure.

Sara’s book is the perfect gift for any new mom. And I’m so proud to say that it was born out of the Longest Shortest Time community, and our supportive, weird, funny spirit.
