Jessica Rose Schrody is that fun, freaky friend of yours that no one necessarily thought would have baby. So when she became a mom to baby Nylah, she imagined her friends saying, “She had a baby?”
Jessica decided to start a blog to write about her life as an independent mom. It was a project she never expected anyone to read, until the day she recorded a parody rap for her friends, and it went viral.
In the video, Jessica performs her parody rap of the song “Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B by changing lines from, “Look, I don’t dance now, I make money moves” into “Man, I’m tryin to dance, but I got mommy boobs.” In her next videos, she took on everything from keeping her tiny studio apartment clean to shopping at Target.
Tune in to hear how YouTube and Instagram became like a digital baby daddy for Jessica, and how her raps are helping to reclaim “baby mama” for single moms everywhere.
Her most viral video to date is her “Mommy” remix of “Money” by Cardi B. It was shared by everyone from Viola Davis to Tiffany Haddish to Beyoncé’s mom, Ms. Tina. Watch the full video to see her toss around baby wipes like dollar bills while Nylah jumps around like a mini hype man.
