When we started working on our series, It’s a Real Mother — before it even had a name — we thought: working moms really need a rebrand. So we reached out to the world’s largest independent design firm, Pentagram, and asked them to help us out. Today, in a special mini-episode, I want to take you behind the scenes and introduce you to Michael Bierut — the designer whose team created our #itsarealmother campaign, and made the video that so many of you have been sharing!
Michael worked with some badass parents at Pentagram to get this campaign off the ground, including Emily Oberman, the mom of twins who created the opening titles to Saturday Night Live and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (one of my favorite things in the world!) — as well as the branding for Leafs by Snoop (Snoop Dogg’s line of marijuana products).
Tune in to hear why Michael wanted to work on this project, the bad ideas along the way, and how the series is making him rethink his own approach as a boss. Plus, um, what he thought of attending my Bat Mitzvah.
It’s a Real Mother
Discrimination against working moms is a real mother of a problem. But you can help. Listen to all the episodes of our series and find out what YOU can do – whether you have kids or not.
If you’ve experienced discrimination in the workplace as a pregnant person or parent and need help, we’ve got resources for you here.
