Six years ago, writer Kim Brooks was visiting her folks in Virginia, when she realized she needed to run an errand. So she borrowed her mom’s minivan, strapped her 4-year-old son in the back seat, and headed to Target.
It was in that parking lot that a complete stranger tried to have Kim arrested for criminally irresponsible parenting. The experience changed Kim’s life and is the subject of her new book Small Animals: Parenthood in the Age of Fear.
